We can also provide expert advice on the suitable building materials for your composite or wood decking and railing system in Minnesota.
Trex Composite®
Trex Composite® decking is a wood alternative made from 95% recycled materials—a combination of ground-up wood and polyethylene plastic from commonly discarded products like stretch wrap, milk jugs, and grocery bags. Compared to wood, Trex® composite decks are mold and mildew resistant and won’t rot or crack. They are also exceptionally low maintenance. You can easily restore the original beauty of your Trex® deck boards with an annual scrub using mild soap.
Trex® decking colors can match or complement your home’s exterior for a seamless finish, whatever its style. Its colors will stay as vibrant and beautiful as the day they were installed, guaranteed with their 25-year Stain & Fade Warranty. Trex® decking is stocked at Lloyd Lumber in many different colors and lengths.
Trex Railing®
Trex® offers three-deck railing systems with composite and aluminum rail options. These railings are easy to install and will perform with the same durability as Trex® decking—they won’t rot, warp, peel, or splinter. What that means for you is a deck that will allow you to spend more time doing the things you enjoy. Visit Lloyd Lumber and check out our Trex® decking and railing systems on display.
Brown Treated
Brown-treated decking is economical and durable, and its attractive color lasts longer than natural wood decking products. It also offers protection from insect damage and fungal decay. We recommend regular washing, staining, and sealing to help increase your brown-treated decking’s longevity. These can then be restained after a couple of years to retain the color. Brown-treated decking is stocked at Lloyd Lumber in 5/4X6 -10’,12’ & 16’ lengths.
Western Red Cedar
Cedar is a fantastic choice for a deck-building material because of its unique properties. It is naturally resistant to rot and decay and dimensionally stable, meaning that it lays flat and stays straight. Cedar wood’s even grain and consistent density also make it less likely to warp, cup, or twist.
Fresh-cut cedar will come in a wide range of honey or peach shades of light brown. When exposed to weather, it will change in color to silver-gray. This wood’s softness makes it easy to work with and readily accepts protective stains. Plus, its thermal properties allow it to stay cool to the touch in the summer heat.
We recommend protecting cedar decking by staining with Penofin or Woodsman exterior stain. A cedar deck can last for 15-20 years or more, depending on maintenance and environment. Cedar decking is stocked at Lloyd Lumber in 5/4X6 – 8’,10’,12’,14’,16’.
Ipe hardwood
Ipe is one of the world’s hardest woods, which lends to its incredible durability and longevity. It is naturally resistant to insect attack, mold, rot, fire, and decay. Ipe hardwood comes in a rich brown with red and amber hues and varies considerably from board to board. This material has a fine texture and interlocking grain, which is extremely dense and tight, resulting in decking with superior slip resistance. Ipe is not a stocked item in Lloyd Lumber but can be special-ordered.
